'A Living Memory'
Mixed media on panel, 2025
This memorial project is rooted in the client’s childhood memories. Black-and-white photographs—some depicting moments with family—are embedded in the rear background of the panel, forming a visual archive of personal history. On both opposing sides, tall trees painted in grisaille create a strong sense of perspective, symbolizing a past life and the passage of time.
Large figurative forms dominate the foreground. These figures evoke the Nativity, with the crib and the baby Jesus at the center, representing love for humanity and the continuity of life. Rather than depicting the scene as a distant image, the composition places the viewer within the sacred space itself.
The viewer becomes a witness to this holy event alongside the infant Christ—inside the cave, inhabiting the present moment while gazing outward. This inward-looking perspective invites reflection: living the now while remembering the past, where collective history and personal memory merge into a single, timeless experience.
